HYPER EXOTICA
'THE WAR IS OVER' | GRADUATE COLLECTION SHOW 2016 | 1ST YEAR
With an incredible partner, Rozita Da Silva, we embarked on this exciting project as part of the opportunity to be selected to showcase our work at the Graduate Collection Show 2016. The theme was focused on bio-tech infused in fashion, as well as capturing the warrior-like spirit in the ideas and garments we would create and present. We were pushed to think outside the box as well as create something avant-garde.

One of the experiments we decided to do as partners for a different take on applique was melting soap and a whole lot of glitter as well as food coloring to cool down and shape into wonderful and weird crystals. This little experimentation was such a learning curve of what can be done versus what should be done. Another tackling moment was us thinking on the idea of dry ice to create a fog effect that would form part of the garment. This was after trying our best to work on a smoke machine using vapes, which ultimately did not work. None the less, whilst we experienced late and sleepless nights shaping our wonderful crystals and racking our brains for the fog ideas, we earned our way to showcasing this work and also winning the Irregular Award for Most Conceptual Design Work.
The best would be all those nights spent in the company of a friend for the ages—teamwork with someone who would laugh and encourage you to keep going.

The project included the making of a tech pack (mostly done on Photoshop but with technical drawings created on Illustrator) as well as the construction of the full look—all handcrafted. Here is a peak at the work created.
